In her capacity as Chief of Staff for National Laboratories, Fabiola (Fabi) serves as a key advisor to Juan de Pablo as he shapes and drives the National Laboratories’ vision. She supports the design, coordination and execution of strategic initiatives and operational plans in support of Argonne and Fermi National Laboratories’ mission, building strong partnerships with the Department of Energy, the National Laboratories, and the University of Chicago leadership teams.
As Assistant Vice President for Finance, Fabi provides leadership for finance analysis, budgeting, accounting, reporting, and internal financial controls improvement for the operations under the Office of Science, Innovation, National Laboratories, and Global Initiatives. Building collaborative relationships with the finance and leadership teams deployed in these offices, she provides guidance and resources to aid the units in the development and management of their respective strategic initiatives, operational plans, audit engagements and financial planning and reporting.
Fabi has an exceptionally strong background in strategic financial planning, internal and external audit, budgeting, change management, global business process excellence, international treasury, and business development. Prior to joining UChicago, Fabi worked across the globe in a series of increasingly responsible leadership roles in public accounting firms, Fortune 500 corporations and private equity-owned enterprises, including such companies as Deloitte, Abbott Laboratories, Aon Hewitt, and most recently Ensono, where she was the Global Vice President for Financial Planning and Analysis.
Fabi received her B.S. and CPA from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) with the highest honors and is a candidate for a Master of Liberal Arts with concentration in Ethics and Leadership at the University of Chicago. Fabi has a passion for learning about the physical and social sciences and has been an active sponsor of charities and organizations focused on the promotion of the arts, literature, and the empowerment of the diverse youth of Chicago. In her spare time, Fabi enjoys traveling, going for walks with her family and pets, and attending performing arts and world culture events.
